Belen and Hector’s DIY Wedding

Surrounded by close family and friends, Belen and Hector said their vows in a traditional Catholic Ceremony at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Indio, California. Having photographed numerous weddings there in the past, we were excited to be there again; especially with them! And super excited to see all of their DIY wedding touches at their Ranch reception.

Our morning began photographing Belen at her parents home, followed by a first look out in the desert with her Groom and their beloved puppies; Luke and Leia – yes, as in Star Wars! You might remember our engagement session with Hector and Belen, our Star Wars loving couple. If you missed it, you can see our post here, and their feature on How He Asked, by The Knot, here.

Belen and Hector were rock stars during their first look. The weather here in May can at times bring unexpected gusts of wind out of nowhere. Their wedding day was no exception, yet, crazy winds (and I mean hang on to your veil kind of winds) were no match for these two. They laughed, smiled and carried on with their jokes as usual. Just another reason why we loved working with them. It was just a Super Fun Day of celebration!

As you’ll see below their wedding ceremony was beautiful. Friends, family, detailed stained glass windows and those smiles of theirs just kept coming! It was quite adorable. One of the priests even commented on it, saying that he had never seen a couple smile together so much, which meant one thing; clearly they were in love and absolutely perfect for eachother.

DIY Details

Belen and Hector love all things DIY, which is exactly why they chose to have a DIY wedding!

Original cow bells given to Belen by her beautiful Grandma (who had too recently passed away) could be seen on a table along side generational wedding photos on display. Their DIY wedding cake table made from Grandma’s old pedal sewing machine base was also unique. As avid book lovers, they glued book pages to the top of their cake table creating a very special piece to display.

Next, the chalkboard backdrop, wedding invitations, mason jars, centerpieces, books, seed of love packets, and the to-go stamped bags for all the donuts. Although, I have a feeling that all 300 donuts were enjoyed before the night even ended, lol; were just some of their awesome DIY wedding details.

Belen and Hector spent much of their day greeting, hugging, laughing, joking and dancing the night away with their family and friends. One of our favorite moments was their SUPER LARGE row of sparklers! 90+ Sparklers were handed out, and that was quite some tunnel to orchestrate, but it went off perfectly. With the help of close friends, everyone did a great job holding up their sparklers as they cheered on the new Mr. and Mrs. Munoz!

There is always so much more that goes on during a wedding day, but the most important thing for me to mention is simply this…

Belen and Hector, your wedding day was absolutely beautiful, the love you two have for one another was SO evident. Your easy- going nature made the day a joyful one. We loved being a part of your day, we loved getting to know your friends and family and most of all we just totally loved photographing the two of you (both at your engagement session and your wedding!). Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for trusting us to create your heirloom memories that one day, you’ll be able to pass down to the next generation of little book readers and Star Wars lovers, lol! Brock and I wish you many, many years of love and happiness to come!
